Information for Year 2 Parents & Carers

Headteacher: Mr Swift Headteacher:
Mr Swift

Welcome to Forefield Junior School

We are looking forward to your arrival in September. We hope that the four years you will spend at Forefield Junior School will be happy ones.

Transition this year has been very different and there have not been the opportunities to meet you that we would usually have had. There will be an opportunity for children to visit us in small groups on Monday 20th July and Tuesday 21st July when they will be able to meet their teacher and see their new classroom (see below).

Y2 to Y3 Transition Sessions

Update: Following recent queries from parents, we would like to add that:

  1. Unfortunately, due to the numbers involved, parents are not being asked to stay on site during the transition visits. Please drop off/pick up from the entrance points at the times stated.
  2. As children will have grown out of their uniform and may not yet have a Junior uniform, they may wear their own clothes. Please ensure that they are comfortable.

Thank you.

We are delighted to be able to offer your child the opportunity to meet their new teacher and see their new classroom. In previous years, we have been able to organise several visits, but this year has presented us with more of a challenge! Whilst we would like to meet all of the children before September, we fully understand if any parent is reluctant to send their child, or is continuing to shield.  For the duration of the session, we will continue to follow guidance regarding distancing, hand-washing etc. Children do not need to bring any additional equipment with them, unless they have a medical need (e.g., an inhaler).

You will receive a text message inviting you to one of the 3 sessions below.

For children currently in a POD at Forefield Infants:

  • Session 1: Monday, 20th July 9:15am – 10:15am.
For children who have not been in school during lockdown:
  • Session 2: Monday, 20th July 1:00pm – 2:00pm;
  • Session 3: Tuesday, 21st July 9:15am – 10:15am.

Children currently in Class 7 will meet Mr Shannon, they should arrive just before the start of their session at Entry Point 6 and stand on the painted shields.

Class 8 will meet Miss Mawdsley, they should arrive just before the start of their session at Entry Point 3 and stand on the painted shields.

Class 9 will meet Miss Khan, they should arrive just before the start of their session at Entry Point 1 (the main entrance) and stand on the painted shields.

If you do not wish to attend the session, please contact school to inform us.

The map below shows the location of each entry point, there are also video guides on our website/Twitter and members of staff will be available on the playground/outside the entrances to direct you.

We are looking forward to meeting you!

School Uniform

Last year we made the transition from selling school uniform in school to an outside provider Stitch Design. This has worked well and feedback from parents is positive. All items of uniform are available on their website. However, we do have limited stock in school as below:

• V neck jumpers – sizes 26”, 32”, 34”, 36”, 38” – we do not have any size 28” or 30”

• Cardigans – only available from Stitch Design

• Zipped hoodies and jogging bottoms – only available from Stitch Design.

We still have lots of P.E. bags in blue and red and we will continue to stock both standard and elasticated ties, although these are also available from Stitchdesign.

Please note: Stitch Design jumper sizes appear to be slightly smaller than the jumpers we have sold in school. We do have samples in the school office and normally we would be happy for you to call in at the end of any school day for your child to try them on prior to ordering online. However, given Government guidance, we are unable to offer this at this time but we are happy to hold up garments for you to see. Should you wish to buy any of the above stock, uniform can be purchased from the school office between 8.30 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. every day. Payment can be made via cash, cheque or card.

How the service works

  • Register, or sign in, by visiting the home page of the website at and clicking on the large “ORDER YOUR SCHOOL UNIFORM HERE” button.
IMPORTANT:  You will need to know our school postcode to register – L23 9TJ
  • Once registered you place and pay for your order online.
  • Please check your confirmation email to ensure that everything on your order is correct, and make a note of the order reference in case you have any queries.
  • If you are unable to place your order online please contact the school office so we can provide you with an order form to be posted to Stitch Design. You can send a cheque, or you will be contacted to make a card payment before your order is dispatched. NOTE: Stitch Design are not able to accept orders placed over the phone.
  • An on-screen sizing guide is available next to each item on the shop. However, school do have samples of cardigans, jumpers and jogging suits for you to see prior to placing your order.

Uniform Recycling - New to You Sale

As a school, we strongly encourage parents to recycle uniform that their child may have outgrown. We are holding a ‘New to You’ uniform sale on Friday 17th July in our dance studio between 9.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.

Items of clothing will available in our dance studio and access can be gained from the school playground. An honesty box will be available for parents to make any donation of their choice in exchange for items of uniform - donations received will be passed onto MacMillan Cancer Support. All items of clothing have been washed but we ask, due to the current Government guidelines, that you wash any items you may purchase prior to putting them on your child. We also ask that children do not try on clothes in the dance studio.

This is a good opportunity to purchase a spare set of clothing or as children grow so quickly, have the next size ready and waiting.

Come and grab a bargain and at the same time support the excellent work of MacMillan.

School Money

All payments for school lunches, trips, theatre groups and external afterschool clubs are made through online payment service, Schoolmoney –

Parent’s accounts will be set up on your child’s first day in school. You will receive a text message with a link and password to log on during the first week of term.

Do not worry about sending your child in on their first day without money or a meal. If they say, when asked by their teacher, that they are having a school meal they will be provided with a meal. We will never see a child without a meal whatever the reason.

Once your Schoolmoney account has been set up school meals must be paid for in advance of meals being taken in line with our School Debt Policy. Any amount of credit can be added to your account and this will be reduced automatically as and when your child has a school meal.

School meals are charged at £2.35 per day. Parents will be informed of any price increase to school meals, as soon as possible.

Children will be asked each morning for their meal choice. These can be found on our weekly newsletter, Forefield Matters, and on our school website. If choosing school meals, their lunch account must be in credit.

Parents can log onto Schoolmoney at any time to see when meals have been charged and to check on their balance.

Children who go home sick or leave school for an appointment from which they will not return that day, will not be charged for an untaken meal.

If your child is in receipt of free school meals, no meals will be charged to your account. However, you will still need a Schoolmoney account in order to pay for trips etc. and give parental consent.

If you think you may be eligible for free school meals please contact the school office, who can provide you with information and assist you with your application. We encourage parents to make an application for free school meals, whether your child takes school meals or not, as we will receive additional funding known as Pupil Premium.

If a trip is arranged you will receive a text message informing you that this is available on Schoolmoney to give your consent and make any requested contributions towards the cost of the trip.

Regular text messages will be sent out to account holders who may build up arrears on their account. Please do not be offended by these but see them simply as gentle reminders to go online and pay for your child’s meals.

The Governing Body acknowledges that, on occasion, families have financial difficulties and in these proven circumstances, the school will work hard with the family to agree a solution, which is not detrimental to the child.

Emergency Contact Information

It is essential that we have up-to-date contact information in case of emergency. Please provide contact deals as soon as possible, using one of the methods outlined below.

We have created an Emergency Contact Form, which can be edited with Microsoft Word. Please fill in all the relevant text boxes, save the file as your child's name and return by email to . This is our preferred method.

If you are unable to access the Microsoft Word version, please download and print the PDF version, complete by hand, then scan or take a high quality photograph of the form and return as above.

If neither of these options are available to you, please contact the school office.

We hope that the information on this page has answered all of your questions, but please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything else you would like to know. Video guides, produced by our Year 6 pupils, are also available to view on the 'Resources for Year 2 Children' page.
